Johnston Canyon und Ink Pots im Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada
The Johnston Canyon is located between Banff and Lake Louise on the Bow Valley Parkway (1A) and is a really nice place and, unfortunately, anything but a secret. But despite lively visitor traffic, you should not miss the Canyon with its waterfalls and the few extra miles to the Ink Pots are highly recommended.
A full trail, you can try to avoid if possible by getting up early and a late arrival in high season Banff National Park. I was at the end of May, against 10 on the trail and have met only on the way back, several people.
The journey to the Johnston Canyon
Johnston Canyon is just 25 km from the town of Banff which is within 30 Minutes can travel. This one follows only the Trans-Canada Highway (#1) North and drive a few km later on the Bow Valley Parkway (#1A) from.
From 1. March to 25. June may be the Bow Valley Parkway between 18:00 – 09:00 Clock will not be traveled. Thus, attempts to wildlife in the area to protect a critical season.

- Type: One Way
- Distance Lower Falls: 1,1 km
- Distance Upper Falls: 2,7 km
- Distance Inkpot: 5,8 km
- Difficulty: Easy – Medium
- Duration: 2-5 Hours
The way to the Lower Falls is more of a small walk than a hike. About a paved road in the canyon goes to this waterfall. From there you can follow the path further up to the much nicer to see Upper Falls. Also the road is fairly easy even if it is actually uphill all the time. Exhausting really only the last kilometers to the Ink Pots which are not covered on tarred roads. It is worthwhile, however, the way to the Ink Pots go because it is really very nice.
